Been a while...used to be active on this forum years ago. Here is my 220 gallon tank showcasing my 3 carpet nems(S. Haddoni, S. Gigantea, and S. Mertensii). Just added an Orange Shoulder Tang and Leopard Wrasse on Fri from Coral Fever(1st trip and will be back). Leopard hasn't reappeared since intro, but am hoping he shows back up soon. Let me know what you think and thanks for following along.

Thanks...it's been set up about 18 mos. need to add a bunch more fish in time. I've had so many fish eaten by the carpets it's a never ending journey.

Pros/Cons of having this type of tank...bought a couple fish a while ago from Coral Fever--Orange Shoulder Tang and Leopard Wrasse. Leopard Wrasse was never seen again after first day and Orange Shoulder Tang( who was doing great) disappeared a few days ago. Don't know if one of the Carpets got him or what. Have checked overflows and sump with no avail...frustrating to say the least. My current fish---Yellow Eyed Kole, pair of Percs and Royal Gramma have all been with me for an extended period. Trying to find fish that can survive the mine field has been a challenge. Just thought I'd vent a little! Thanks for following along!

Nice to see you posting. Pictures don’t do this tank justice.

I agree that it stinks loosing fish and not being able to get a few that are quick on their fins to steer clear of the carpets.

Thanks ya'll. I was thinking larger fish would be smarter, but that hasn't been the case.

IME; its only a matter of time before they accidentally brush up against or get blown into a nem/coral by the flow. Wrong time, wrong place kinda situation. But it's survivable if just a BTA, LT, Sebae or even a Ritteri. Unfortunately, that's not usually the case with a Carpet. :-(

I thought if the fish doesn't fit in the nems mouth, you're left with a dead carcass. So you should have found the tangs carcass.

From what I have seen, most carpets will expand to fit most of the fish in its gut if not all of it and then discard the carcass when it starts to rot. Some nutrition is taken from the unlucky fish.
for as beautiful as Carpets are I do not think any fish is completely safe in their presence.

This is a great question as moon lights help illuminate potential threats for the fish such as anemones.

    No, I don't have moonlights.
    Thanks! Continued work in progress!
My Haddoni is about 18-20"...it has eaten in the past a 6" leopard wrasse and a 6" tang...I found a ball of goo that was the carcass after it had been partially digested. The Orange Shoulder was only about 3" long, so would have thought that I would find anything.

Not familiar with either...looking for something simple and inexpensive...

Never had moonlights...any models you recommend?
