Here are some pics of my DIY stand and canopy I am working on. There is a BW 29gl tank and a 55gl soon to be reef tank on it.

Looks really nice. That wall is as crammed with stuff as most in my townhouse are!

  6. Nice wood work. How do you plan on putting a canopy over the two tanks?

Thats what I am working on now. I am still not 100% sure on what I am goin to do yet. I was thinking of going 10" high with a facial board to hide the seam inbetween the tanks, not sure if I want two lids or one? The 55gl will have 4 48" VHO and the BW30gl will have two 24"NO lights. Any ideas are welcome at this point.

  8. If you build one large canopy, you'd still have the option of eventually putting one large tank on the stand (if you ever decide to do that) without needing to break out the tools again. You could suspend it from the ceiling or attach to the back wall if you can't figure out a way to get a smooth transition sitting on top the tanks.

I think I am going to build one large canopy around 10" tall and try and hide the seams of the two tanks where they meet. Also thinking of putting a thin divider between the two tanks. I am worried about algae growth in the BW with my VHO's from the SW tank.

Thanks... It wasn't really all that hard to build. I was lucky and a friend of mine has a shop with every wood working tool you could want. The tools make a huge difference.

  14. That is really nice looking. The canopy tied everything together perfectly. Excellent job!
