I keep a lid on my overflow for just this reason. My foxface got spooked and jumped out of the water. In the process he knocked the lid off of the overflow and fell in. He's about 5 1/2 to 6" long. Any net he can fit in will not fit into the overflow not to mention he just goes through the pipes to the other side where you can't get him. He eventually got angry at being chased and flat out went bezerk on the net attacking it with his spines, bruising and scraping himself up in the process (just glad it wasn't my hand ). I let him be since I was just stressing him out and not accomplishing anything. At first I thought he was in shock but he is still ok for the moment (minus the scrapes and being extremely confused). Now, any suggestion on how to get this sucker out?

kill the pump, drain the overflow and, wearing a protective glove, pick him up and put him back into the display.

never had this happen to me before, but sounds like a good idea :D

It's that whole "pick him up" thing I have a problem with. :) The tank is 30" deep and I don't think I can reach the bottom well without diving in. That and I just witnessed what he did to a net after becoming possessed by Lucifer.

I think I'm going to go look for another net today and see if I can find one that will work better and then drain most of the water out and try. He's still sitting there staring at me like, "GET ME THE HECK OUT OF HERE!"

take the pipes out and scoop him out with a net.

'Round here, we fish with dynamite.

nah, I kid. I think a net would be your best bet.

Do you have enough room to use 2 nets? One net to keep him from going by the pipes and to guide him to the other net. Just a thought, good luck with it.

I thought about that on the way to work this morning. I'm going to pick a couple up on the way home. If I use 2 and lower the water to just a couple of inches I think I can get him out. I don't think he'll be venturing to that area of the aquarium again. :D

That's a thought. Do you know of any local stores that might sell them?

Take a vacation for a few days. I'll look after your tank and get the overflow from around the foxface. It's the least I can do after getting you hooked on the hobby.

    Go ahead.

Anyway I got him out. I managed to find a net that fit just right. He's bruised up and has a broke spine tip but he's back in the main display hiding in a cave peeking out.
