I have been really impressed with Aqua Hut in Praireville and Aquarium Central in Lafayette. Any other stores out there in Louisiana that I should visit?

Coral Fever in Raceland and Epic Aquaria in Shreveport.

If you happen to find yourself near Monroe, stop by Aquatic Solutions.

Aquatic Sealife on Veterans probably has the best selection now in the NOLA area.

Reef Coral was extremely disapointing. That tank they have might be the coolest of any store but they have a very limited selection of what they are actually selling.

Also, Coral Connection in Metairie is terrible. One of thw owners was smoking a cigar in the store and the tanks had lots of GHA. Was not impressed.

Ha, ok. He seemed like a nice guy. Too bad I won't ever go back there again.

I stick with Jon at Aqua Hut for everything. I'll go to other stores to take pics of what I like if by some chance they have it, then go back to Jon to order if for me. He's help me from my 90 gallon up to my 225, so he will always get my business. VERY knowledgeable as well!

I just went there again in December. I cant wait to go back to see how he is progressing on that new monster tank. I also love his plan to set up an anemone tank and more frag tanks. I have found that a lot of these stores are owned by hobbyists who dont really know how to make money. Jon seems to be starting to figure it out.

What's it like in there nowadays? I haven't been there since Rick owned it, and we haven't heard from @Reef Geeks NOLA since they opened.

I went there last week. There really isn't a large selection to choose from and a lot of the tanks are in bad shape, but it seems the owner knows his stuff and is really trying hard to make it work.

Those tanks at Reef Geeks are very mature tanks that have been set up over 15 years. They may not be pretty but
They are Ricks original set ups

I haven't been since he remodeled. Tore down my tank a few months ago, so hadn't needed to go for anything until I get it back up and running in the new house. Seen pics on Facebook of what he did. Can't wait to see it in person.

+1 can’t go wrong with any of these. Cant vouch for epic or aquatic solutions seeing as I haven’t been there but some good people have and I take their word.

    Thanks for the shoutout!

It's coming along out here. It's been a process trying to get these tanks revamped and figuring which ancient pieces of technology can get tossed... There are tanks that have leaky connections, and pumps that are grinding their impeller housings, so it's quite the triage process, haha.

Our fish selection is honestly probably below average, but we're in no rush to overload the systems. On that note, we do always have a few rare wrasses around. I have a hard time pushing livestock out the door that I'm not confident in, which really limits what fish I'm willing to bring to the store. Between suppliers running low doses of medication and having very old systems, I have to manage what I get more closely than a lot of other stores. It's extremely important to me to only sell healthy fish.

On the other hand, we do have a pretty extensive coral selection with an emphasis on SPS and acros. I probably have at least a frag of whatever you're looking for, albeit no designer pieces just yet. We've got several parent colonies that we frag regularly as well.

It's definitely been a challenge shifting from the public aquarium field to the hobby, but helping beginners out or making suggestions to baffled experts reminds me why I did it.

For those of you who have been to the shop, I'd love to hear your honest feedback. Feel free to shoot me a message on here, Facebook, or email. Or even start a thread on LARC! The shop isn't perfect yet, but we could definitely use your help getting it there.

Sorry for the long winded reply. Just trying to make up for the hiatus! Hope to see y'all soon.
