Well I think it is time to start over. We are moving in the next few week (any volunteers for tank moving day?), my tank is overrun with bubble algae, hair algae and aptaisa and the acro issues I have going on. To start over I only need new rock. What are the good sources for rock these days. The tank is a 120 and I like to go on the lighter side for rock.

I think I will break off the few acros I have left and put them in my 45, along with the LPS, clams and zoas. Get some new rock and go. I may even go with sand, maybe just a light layer to keep my LPS from encrusting to the bottom.

About 3 miles from where I live now. Wife and I are down sizing. The place we are getting is half the size we have now. That is not as scary as it sounds, our house is huge and we only use about half of it anyway.

Yes. We are in Summerfield now. Moving off Park not far from the old K-mart.

I can definitely come help as long as it's on the weekend or after 4 PM during the week. I would love to give you a hand.

As of right now, I am shooting for March 3rd or 4th for the tank move.

Let's shoot for the 4th because the frag convention in Slidell is on the 3rd.

Sure. I just got the keys today. We should have all our stuff moved by then.

I doubt I will be able to get down there and help out. As far as the new rock, what are you leaning towards?

I stocked mine with the Caribsea Life Rock. On the plus side, I found the rock to be more porous and more natural looking than the Real Reef Rock - especially not as purple. The downside to this rock is it is made from ceramic like material instead of aragonite and can not be cut or drilled. The rock does come seeded with dormant spores and the tank cycles almost immediately. I think it in itself was a great base rock as long as you top it with something else. I will probably not use it again though. Tough to beat on price.

My second choice was the Pukani Rock. Aquatic Sealife stocks it locally and its impressive stuff. If I ever started over, that is what I would go with.

Oh and I do think you should go with sand :D. I understand why you do bare bottom, but I always though the tank looks to sterile without the sand. As you said, you can go really thin with it and even replace it as needed. A bag of sand costs less than a nice frag so cost should not be a major factor. I keep less than a 1/2" in my tank and its easy to clean, whenever I get around to it.

Not sure what I am going to use. I am going to kill what I have and use it as base rock. I know I have options when the time comes. Figure 40 lbs or so should do the trick.

Still iffy on sand. I like having lots of flow without having to work about displacing sand.
