Just got back from my honeymoon and one of the activites we did was snorkeling on a reef In Roatan Honduras. I'll be posting some pictures and if I can figure out how some video from the trip here. Feel free to try to ID anything in the pics I saw lots of corals fish and things on the trip. There were so many gorgs and encrusting corals and sponges and some huge brains much bigger than my head. Pics are taken with an el cheapo knockoff go pro the pictures are prety decent but some shots have alot of blue that can be difficult to remove. The video however is excellent nice and crisp with vibrant true to life colors.

This actualy wasnt dead despite how it looks. Its actualy a very light greenish tan the picture makes it look dead and like it has algae on it after editing out the over powering blue for some reason. I got right up close to this one and I promise it was alive.

the yellowish tan stuff growing in patches was not a sponge its encrusting coral and in certan light had a slight greenish color to the polyps.

Theres a little yellow fish near the bottom in the little overhang. It's not a great shot of it. They were very fast I didnt get a good look at the ones that were moving.

Snorkeling near a 120 or more year old wreck there was alot of small reefs and bommies sticking up. We counted 4 old wrecks around the island that were visable all stuck in the reef that's just in the area we were in that we could see from.the ship and the water taxi too.

Incredible photos and I hope you and your new spouse had a great time on the trip. My wife and I loved our time in Hawaii...until broke her collar bone and elbow LOL. We had a romantic dinner in the Maui ER. We had to cancel our 3 day stay in the main island, which was a big deal as her dad was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. Never made it back. We did do a honeymoon 2.0 in Aruba and had a great time. The diving is not very stellar as there are no reefs around the island...but there are some interesting ship wrecks.

Looks to me as though it is an encrusting fire corals (Millepora sps.) Very common in the Atlantic basin and will be the dominant hard coral where conditions are not optimal. I could not tell you which one it is.

You should check out the series of books published by Paul Humann: Reef Fish Identification Books by New World Publications. I have the four book set for the Florida Caribbean Bahamas...but just out of my reach at the moment.

On second though, I think those are Porites heads. In the Atlantic basin, it tends to be encrusting/mound forming and takes on a yellow mustard coloration.

Lol I am the wife . Good gracious how did she get hurt? Worst we got was a few scratches and bruises. The other snorkelers would suddenly congregate around me any time I stoped and often ran me over when I was trying to film one dude and his girl kept hitting me in the face with his finns I got it on camera too. Like kept doing it I seriously wanted to ask what there problem was like if they were folowing me or something. I would move away from people to try to start to film and in seconds had like 4 or 5 people practically on top of me to the point I would have to move or push them off. My husband had a 7 year old got separated from her parents and was struggling she grabed onto him so he took her to the tour guy who had a tube and she was hanging onto it most of the trip. I think alot of people were unfamiliar what to do and panicked they just congregated around the people who looked "safe" or like they were not struggling as far ad I could tell.

I just remembered that! Not a lot of women in the hobby :D. We were doing the sunrise volcano mountain bike ride and she lost control of the bike.

I may just try to get stills from the videos alot of them are prety short because of me having to frequently move or swing wildly around due to me having to get away from people.
