Threaded Male PVC connector comes in the bottom, then 4 threaded male PVC connector out the top.
A motor spins alternating the flow. Pretty simple.

Here is the one on my old 140 gallon. There are endless ways to plumb these. 1 1/2" threaded female inlet on the bottom and (4) 1" threaded female outlets.

Well, it is an old picture (around 2006). VHO fluorescents. I think I still have the working ballast. I should have left that lighting system alone, but no, I had to have LEDs. That was two 250 watt MH bulbs and 4 VHO bulbs.
